How to Convert CSV to Excel File Easily
Open a CSV in Excel without broken characters or merged columns, and save it as a proper workbook.
In this article
A verified list usually comes back as CSV. To filter, sort and share it, open it in Excel properly.
The safe way: import, do not double-click
Double-clicking a CSV can merge columns or break accented characters. Importing gives you control.
- In Excel choose Data, From Text/CSV.
- Select the file.
- Set the file origin to UTF-8 so special characters display correctly.
- Confirm the delimiter (comma or semicolon) in the preview.
- Click Load.
Save as a workbook
Choose File, Save As and pick Excel Workbook (*.xlsx). Now filters, colours and formulas are kept.
Useful next steps
- Turn on filters and sort by status.
- Keep only valid addresses in one sheet and risky ones in another.
- Use Remove Duplicates as a last check.
Google Sheets alternative
Upload the file to Drive and open it with Sheets, or use File, Import. Both read UTF-8 correctly.
